Welcome to DrawWithTheHollicks!
Our Mission: DrawWithTheHollicks engages all peoples in capturing their world, whether it be what is physically around them or within their mind, heart, and soul through free community meet-ups or private lessons/parties.
Art Dream Team
We are Lauren & Michael Hollick, two artists and art educators in the Hudson Valley, New York- nice to meet you! Many things inspired us to design these casual sketching meetups. As we've been using our sketchbooks at our favorite places, dozens of people would come over to us to see what we are drawing, to ask questions, and to become inspired themselves. We started ripping pages out of our sketchbooks and passing out pencils and inviting interested artists of all ages to draw with us, even using electronic translators to converse in other languages!
What we do:
As a well rounded artists and educators, we provide many services for different variety of settings:
Art Meetups: We provide drawing supplies, paper, and clipboards across the Hudson Valley and NYC to spark joy in the arts and guide people of all ages to get inspired by the world around them. Here, participants can freely sketch or ask us to help demonstrate how to approach a sketch.
Art Parties: Hire us to bring creativity to you and your fun celebration! This can be for all ages. We can provide face painting, crafts, or specific art lessons like: collage your own super hero/villain, make a comic strip, make your own mask, etc.
For an older audience, we can provide lessons like: design your own tattoo, design your own original character, paint n' sip or paint n' puff paint parties, etc.
Individualized Art Lessons: Receive guidance and techniques on how to hone in on your already known artistic skills or learn something new! We have taught artists of all ages and skill levels and will work with you to create
Commissions: We will create artwork in almost any medium designed by hearing your vision and feedback. Something for you, your home, or a gift for a loved one.
Lauren Hollick she/they
Lauren Hollick has lived in the Hudson Valley her whole life and obtained an Associates in Art Studies at Dutchess Community College and a Bachelors in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz. Lauren has worked in public & private schools, various non-profit art organizations, and taught the SUNY New Paltz Saturday Arts Lab program. She is the former Director of Artistic Advancement & Director of the Art Institute at The Art Effect
Her current mediums of choice for her personal work include oils, ink, charcoal, and animation and has been featured in many art exhibitions across the Hudson Valley and beyond.
Lauren believes all peoples should have access to and thrive in the arts.
Michael Hollick he/him
Michael Hollick is an art teacher at Mount Kisco Elementary School, leading choice based lessons for students in grades K through 5. A graduate of SUNY New Paltz, Michael has taught for non profits and Summer camps all over the Hudson valley. As a fan of horror movies, video games, and anything involving monsters- Michael's sculptures and paintings explore themes of growth, decay, and the fine line between ugliness and beauty. Michael believes strongly in artistic choice, and allowing students to express their personal narratives. Whether his students are working on a self portrait with 2D/3D materials, an armature for a clay sculpture, or building a piece of wearable art- Michael's lessons always allow students to blaze new trails and take creative risks in a supportive environment.
